Testbeam schedule and plans o Reminder ATLAS testbeam
Testbeam schedule and plans o Reminder: ATLAS testbeam schedule o L 1 Calo testbeam ‘staging’ (de-scoping? ) o o o Hardware Timescales Hardware/software preparation June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 1
Latest ATLAS schedule June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 2
Testbeam staging: hardware o Concentrate on ‘absolute minimum’ slice o 1 of each: PPM, CMM, ROD (CPM DAQ) o If all else fails we already learn something o Expand as becomes feasible o o o More ROD types JEM + associated CMM QUESTION o If this all works, should we expand further? o June 2 nd, 2004 Probably not, to facilitate slice tests at RAL Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 3
Testbeam Hardware: minimal C P U P P M T C M CC PM UM T C M 9 U custom crate 9 U VME crate C 6 U VME P crate U C P M R O D CTP ROS June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 4
Testbeam Hardware: eventual? C P U PP PP MM T C M CC PM UM C P U C P M J CT E MC M MM RRRRR OOOOO DDDDD CTP Ro. IB? June 2 nd, 2004 ROS Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 5
Testbeam Hardware: notes o Don’t actually require 2 PPMs o o Maximum RODs: 5 o o PPM, CPM, JEM, CMM, C or J Ro. I Don’t bother with CMM Ro. Is o o o But might be neater (1 EM + 1 had) Therefore most ROD firmware already available Major exception is PPM, but could use neutral variant Minimal system is essentially ready o Except PPM of course June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 6
Testbeam staging: timescales o Concentrate on late period o o 23 rd August to early October Start shipping small numbers of modules mid-August o o o Beam run starts 1 st September 25 ns run end September Calibration work in early October PPM standalone tests in mid-June o o Originally shipping late July HD only, could answer some calo interface issues QUESTION: Do we need an advance party? June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 7
Hardware/software preparation o Two identified periods where central ATLAS DAQ will help us to integrate o DAQ integration part I o o o 5 th to 9 th July At RAL Probably not required – we’re already using ROS o o But what about Rod Crate DAQ? DAQ integration part II o o o 2 nd to 6 th August At testbeam – but plan now says we don’t go then Do we just wait til late August? o o o June 2 nd, 2004 Or send an advance party Eg Murrough + Bruce + 6 U crate + DSS + ROD Or replace DSS by 9 U crate and CPM? Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 8
Conclusions o Plans are becoming: o o Less ambitious More solid o But still some discussion required o Need to start thinking about travel o o For most people, just September We must agree about what is required for testbeam and slice tests o AND WE DO NO MORE AND NO LESS THAN IS REQUIRED June 2 nd, 2004 Stephen Hillier, University of Birmingham 9
