Thoughts to Consider 1. 2. 3. How will you train the 6 -8 -10 year olds today to compete in the changing game 10 years from now? Considering the influx of foreign born players: How will including young local foreign born players impact your team and club ? How will it impact competition within the team ? How much might it raise the level of play within your club ?

Closing Comments Gerard Houllier, FFF: “ If you don’t question and try to upgrade your methods you will be left behind … you have to be adventurous … that’s how you progress. Dick Bate, English FA: “ Never before in the history of the game have so many innovations, changes and shifts occurred in such a short time.

Closing Comments - 2 Dick Bate, con’t: Preparing young players and teams for the future is the role of the coach, who works largely from a present-day curriculum which is rapidly being overtaken by the game’s forward moving technical and tactical agenda. Where will the game be in 10 years time and what will the effective coach need in order to produce competitive players in the future?

Closing Comments - 3 With the game becoming a “ world game”, we must include, blend, balance, and compete with the ever-increasing influx of foreign players in our own backyard. We must also be aware of the background and passion that these players bring to our soccer culture and how it will challenge the balance of ‘old school’ and ‘new school’ thinking. If you stand still, you fall behind !!

Final Thought 1. Identify / Develop the ‘elite’ player 2. Expand the potential pool of players

The Bolton Story 1. 2. 3. 4. How do you celebrate when you REALLY win something ? Setting standards : Based on team makeup, coach’s philosophy, strength of opponent (competition), expectations
