Termium • Created in 1970 by André Clas from Université de Montréal (UM!) for French and English – Primary function : ensure reliable documents in the two official languages of Canada – Secondary function : facilitate translation from and into the languages of NAFTA • 3, 900, 000 “terms” • 4000 monthly updates • English, French, Spanish (Latin for scientific names)

GRAND DICTIONNAIRE TERMINOLOGIQUE • Formerly Banque de terminologie du Québec – Available on line – free – since 2000 – Founded by Office de la langue française (itself founded in 1961) – Office québécois de la langue française since 2002. – Over 3 million terms in French – French, English (Latin for scientific names)
Function of Grand dictionnaire terminologique • Enact the provisions of the Charte de la langue français In particular the right to work in French It is therefore an instrument to promote French in all situations in Québec, in particular those from which it was formerly excluded
IATE • IATE – Interactive terminology for Europe : grew out of Eurodicautom, founded 1975 for the translators of the European Commission. • IATE is the EU inter-institutional terminology database, used in the EU institutions and agencies since summer 2004 for the collection, dissemination and shared management of EUspecific terminology. • Available for the general public since 2007.

History of IATE • The project was launched in 1999 to provide a webbased infrastructure for all EU terminology resources. • IATE incorporates all of the existing terminology databases of the EU’s translation services. • The following legacy databases have been imported into IATE, which now contains approximately 1. 4 million multilingual entries: • § Eurodicautom (Commission), • § TIS (Council), • § Euterpe (EP), • § Euroterms (Translation Centre), • § CDCTERM (Court of Auditors),
