Tentatively Called: Dude, Where’s my Science? The Tentative Presentation

A Muse Found… • At approximately 11: 00 p. m. EST, the medieval drama translation group, consisting of four outlaws known as Harding, Friedenthal, De. Stefano, and Baldwin, gathered under the portrait of Anna Jane Moyer on one too many occasions. This is their story.

A Script to Butcher… • The text: John Redford’s humanist classic Wit and Science • The mission: “Translate” the text into a “modern” play… or receive a “failing” grade. • The problem: Our brains = poo • The solution: Excessive “borrowing”

Mad Dancing Around the “Issue” • Although initial attempts at afternoon meetings and dividing up the characters and portions of the script seemed like a good idea… • We realized that in order to truly create dramatic genius, this would not be the case… • But what would be the answer? Our muse?

Like Double Cherry Pie, Yeah There She Was… • Under the watchful eyes of Anna Jane, the translation tribe met three or so times a week in the library at the time when most students went home to sleep… like smart kids. • Creativity flowed like beer down a drunk’s gullet, and soon we had an “idea or two. ”

My Brain Hurts • For the first time in the long, glorious, and prestigious history of Medieval Drama, the concept of script brainstorming was born. • Although largely productive, sometimes the brainstorming was so brutal even our bruises needed a smoke.

The Method to our Madness • So, with the 70’s after-school special theme decided, we set out in search of a way to transform Wit and Science into Tentatively Called: Dude, Where’s my Science? • Basically, we thought of lines and songs and characters and such from other media forms and constructed ways to “borrow” them into our text.

Oh Yeah, P. S. • We also did a little bit of research. What we learned was something we had suspected all along. In order to make Wit and Science funny to indifferent college kids, we had to add pop culture and modern humor.
