Objective The purpose of this project was to test if the line would break at the manufactured specified rating and to measure and plot the stress vs. strain curve for the fishing line. The type of fishing line that we used was nylon. Fishing Line Brands: Du Pont: Stren Sport Fisher: Eagle Claw Zebco: Omniflex Trilene: XL Super Strong Trilene: XT Extra Tough
12 Lb Test Fishing Line Du Pont: Stren Made in U. S. A. Stress vs. Strain of 12 lb Test 120, 000 The break point of the 12 lb test was at 13. 3 lbs. Breaking Points of the fishing lines
Tested strength as a percent of rated strength Are test showed that only the 30 lb Trilene and 12 lb Stren had a greater tested strength then they were rated for. The 14 lb Eagle Claw broke almost 14% its rated strength. The other two, the Zebco Omniflex 15 lb, and the Trilene Super Strong 25 lb, both broke relatively close to their rated strengths, within 5%.
