What is a temporary employee? n A temporary employee is an individual who is employed in a certain company over a fixed period of time. They don’t usually receive the same wages and benefits as normal full time workers, so they don’t get things like pensions, health insurance and fringe benefits. Temporary employees may also be known as, seasonal, contractual, interim, or casual staff.

Pros and Cons PROS CONS The entrepreneur can keep staffing levels flexible, so if a member of staff is off work, the temporary employee can take his place for the period of time, until the other employee returns. Frequent substitution of employees could cause poor communication within a business. The business will lack chemistry amongst staff. They may need the temporary employees’ expertise for a specific task over a certain period of time, like a freelancer. This would allow them to save money, due to the fact that they would not need to hire another fulltime staff member. Long-term temporary employees may not be as motivated as full-time workers. This may be because, they are not getting full benefits, or get paid as much Temporary workers can prove themselves to become full-time employees. This would save the business time and money; they would not need to advertise, or do job interviews since a temporary employee can prove to do the job without this. If a business provides a service, the customers may not approve of the constant change over of employees in the business. Some customers like to deal with the same employees for comfort reasons.
