n 1 -Real Time Telehealth: n It requires the presence of both parties at the same time and a communications link between them that allows a real-time interaction to take place. n N. B: n Video Conferencing equipment is one of the most common forms of technologies used in Real
• Tele-Otoscope-allows a remote physician to 'see' inside a patient's ear. Tele-stethoscope- allows the consulting remote physician to hear the patient's heartbeat.
n 2 - Store-and-Forward Telemedicine: n. Involves acquiring medical data (like medical images) and then transmitting this data to a doctor or medical specialist at a convenient time for assessment off line
n Advantages 1. It of Telehealth does not demand the presence of both parties at the same time and does not usually require expensive equipment. 2. Helped to make doctor’s offices and medical facilities as close to one another as the nearest computer screen.
3 -Can be used in the remotest parts of the world or in places as close as a correctional facility, helping to eliminate the dangers and costs associated with the transportation of prisoners to a medical center 4 - Allows a surgeon to be in 2 places at once. 5 -Allows homebound to receive treatment.
n Disadvantages n 1. many states of Telehealth won't allow out-of-state physicians to practice medicine unless they’re licensed in that state. n 2 -underlying fears of malpractice for physicians engaged in telehealth because there is a lack of hands-on interaction with patients. n 3 -Technological problems. Telephone lines and rural areas not having cable.
n n Requirements to establish Telehealth system 1 - Hardware Telephone n Computer n Fax machine n Monitoring equipment n -Diabetes monitors n -Cardiovascular monitors n
n 2 -Telehealth Software n Microsoft Windows n Databases n Internet browsers n Email clients n Conferencing software n Up To Date n Database accessed via the world wide web
n Helps patients better understand treatments n Helps patients better understand medical conditions n Provides access to most recent studies and health information n Ethical/Legal Issues n Security, privacy and confidentiality, in telehealth consultation, are the concerned
n n n n TELENURSING Definition of telenursing: Telenursing refers to is the use of “technology to deliver nursing care and conduct nursing practice. Telenursing Examples Phone Interactive Video Internet Support Remote Telemonitor
Technology Used Hardware (physical computer body) n Computers (laptops, desktops) n Palm computers n Telephones n Graphic’s card n Sound cards n Internal Memory ( RAM) n External Memory ( flash drives)
n Advantages n Provide remote care n Decrease patient visit n Data Sharing n Rapid Response time n Improve access, costs and outcomes n Enhances patients voice in decisions
n Disadvantages n Dehumanizing effects n Cost n Inability for patient to use equipment n Knowledge base of the nurse n Equipment malfunction
n n Implications for Nursing Delivery, management, coordination of care n Multi-disciplinary teams n Disease Management n Providing Distant Care
Future of Telenursing n Ongoing development Technologies provides of new endless Possibilities in the future of Nursing care.
