Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) ØTelangana state development planning society (TSDPS) was established by the Planning Department, Government of Telangana to continue the services of existing hydro –metrological projects in Telangana after AP reorganization act 2014. ØAn automatic weather station (AWS) is defined as a “Meteorological Station at which weather observations are made and transmitted automatically”. ØAWS captures weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed/direction, pressure and rainfall sensors. ØTo facilitate the weather data collection, 831 AWS stations were installed in batches: 2008 -09 and 2011 -12. ØIntegrated AWS+DES+IMD mandal wise rainfall data generation is started during 2017, disseminated mandal wise rainfall status through online.

AWS Data Flow Model Ø Data from AWS stations are transmitted through GSM Technology

AWS Data Flow Model Ø Data from AWS stations are transmitted through GSM Technology in an encrypted form. The received raw data is decrypted in real time and retrieved at TSDPS data center. Quality checks are performed on this raw data to eliminate error values and disseminate to various technical units

Quality Control Checks ü ü ü Completeness of data v Raw data received on

Quality Control Checks ü ü ü Completeness of data v Raw data received on hourly basis is checked at the time of recording v Top hours v Eliminating erroneous data v 24 hourly packets Separating sensor-wise data v Running queries to separate data sensor wise v Preparing summaries station-wise and sensor-wise v Providing summaries to mapping unit for generating maps v Authorizing data for uploading on web Check for Climatological consistency v Verifying temperature data with reference to normal temperature ranges ie. , max of max for the day and min of min for the day Time consistency check v To verify the rate of change of instantaneous data Internal consistency check v Checking internal consistency of data are based on the relation between two parameters like when there is rainfall, the temperature will fall and humidity will rise Spatial check v Comparing the rainfall values with reference to DES manual rain gauge data/TSDPS AWS data

New Initiatives Mobile App for Weather Data • Development of Mobile Weather app (T-Weather) is under process and will be shortly released for the public use. • This app will provide the instant weather information of any part of the state and facilitates to know Real time Temperature, Rainfall(mm), humidity and wind speed/direction instantly from the current location • Provides 3 -days district (31) wise Forecast: Maximum/ Minimum Temperature and Rainfall (mm). • Also provides top 10 temperature locations in each District on hourly basis which alerts the officials to take immediate action at field level.

New Initiatives of TSDPS It is proposed to install new 332 AWSs in addition

New Initiatives of TSDPS It is proposed to install new 332 AWSs in addition to existing 863 AWSs to enhance the grid size from 10 X 10 km to 5 X 5 km in State. It is also proposed to install 120 AWSs in GHMC area to enhance the grid size from 10 X 10 km to 2. 5 X 2. 5 km, it will be very useful for planning of urban flooding. It is planned to display weather information in GHMC area and district head quarters through LED display boards. Analysis and generation of data from State to village level to asses climate change impacts for preparation of disaster mitigation plans. District wise weekly weather outlook for next seven days (Saturday to Friday) will be useful for Agriculture operations, high lighting the heavy rainfall and dry/wet spells during the monsoon seasons are regularly uploading in the www. tsdps. telangana. gov. in web site.
