The Gel used for teeth whitening Although there are significant differences among the teeth whitening lights available in the market, the most important factor is the gel. Hydrogen peroxide works much better than carbamide peroxide. 16% hydrogen peroxide is the strongest teeth bleaching gel that we can use without the use of a gingival barrier. However, this gel is so strong (and therefore gives such good results), that it cannot be used with a mouth tray as with the mouth tray it gives too much gum irritation because some of the gel goes onto the gums. The only way to use this gel and avoid gum irritation is with proprietary teeth whitening system.

Steps: • Protective gloves must be used, since the material may provoke irritation and burning. • Before performing whitening treatments, the client should have a professional dental cleaning. The lips and gums are protected from any burning with a protective gel (Vitamin E). • Then, the lip/cheek retractor is inserted to expose the treatment area, and prevent the skin being under the laser light. • Next the laser light is focused on the tooth, which in turn activates the bleaching crystals. The laser light penetrates the tooth enamel to make it brighter and whiter. • Eyes must be protected from the laser light by goggles (Both, client and the technician!. )

STEPS cont… • Let the laser work for 20 minutes, them turn it off. • Immediately after the laser is being removed, the teeth has to be rinsed with water and brushed in order to remove the gel. • It is very important to not swallow the solution during rinsing. • The client must avoid food and hot/cold drinks for two hours after the treatment, because of possible sensitivity of teeth.
