Technology Roadmap: Win. CC OA 3. 16: CERN-wide rollout to production Mandatory upgrade for all systems before the end of LS 2 „Teething problems” of every upgrade to be expected Increase in expert support requests Despite of thorough testing, some faults may only be detected in production environments, necessitating quick follow-ups with the upstream vendor; same applies for OPC-UA servers Regular patches: received from ETM every couple of weeks Combined with upgrades of UNICOS and JCOP Framework to v. 8. 4. 0(+) Mainly fixes but also some features Increased effort required in validation for production systems Win. CC OA 3. 17 will become available in Dec 2019 Will not be used at CERN; 3. 16 used for LHC Run 3 Still the numerous included changes need to be analysed Security in-depth, authentication, licensing, etc
Technology Roadmap: Win. CC OA Consolidation of Win. CCOA License Generator and User Management Critical service for almost 800 users at CERN and 200 external institutes Production and development licenses generated at CERN Review of validity for all user registration, in line with OC 11 requirements cleanup/anonymisation of user data Review of workflows for license and user management planned Technical consolidation of 20+ year old software infrastructure required License-generation already highly automatized; further opportunities for streamlining will be investigated
Technology Roadmap: Win. CC OA Renewal of Win. CC OA contract with Siemens/ETM Current contract (extension) finishes at the end of 2020 Strong request from community to have the contract extended further, with current conditions to cover The existing few hundreds of production systems at CERN: Experiments DCS systems, Accelerator, Technical Infrastructure Development of new systems (e. g. renovation of CV, neutrino platform tests) Cover all new versions of Win. CC OA, possibly for the next 10 years Keep delivering unlimited number of development licenses for CERN users Pre-negotiations starting already Prolongue the long-standing partnership relation with the company Enhanced by participation in the CERN open. Lab program
Technology Roadmap: Win. CC OA Further work to align with changing MAlt landscape Changes in IT infrastructure, change from AD to Free. IPA, etc Changes in policies in hardware and software management (eg. CMF) „Linux Terminal Servers” compatibility Initiative in the scope of MAlt alternative to Windows Terminal Server May potentially resolve numerous stability problems of WTS Technical solution proposed by IT, Fast. X, needs to be validated for compatibility Cent. OS 8 may be required during the Run 3 Not currently supported by Win. CC OA 3. 16 Numerous technical solutions possible (as was done with Cent. OS 7)
