PROS AND CONS • Pros: – Technology gives us instant access to a database

PROS AND CONS • Pros: – Technology gives us instant access to a database of information – Tech. can bring people together and help organize communities – Endless potential for learning • Cons: – Technology can often times be distracting – Some believe it causes mental health issues – Can be used for in bad ways

INSTANT ACCESS • If we have questions we about something we can quickly Google

INSTANT ACCESS • If we have questions we about something we can quickly Google the answer • Many great minds in history had no access to internet and technology and still were able to accomplish great things • This can enable students to learn more efficiently than those before them • In the classroom teachers find effective way to use technology as well

DISTRACTIONS • While we have the opportunity to research and learn almost anything students

DISTRACTIONS • While we have the opportunity to research and learn almost anything students will often times find themselves getting distracted by social media or games • If Galileo had access to an endless database of information would he have been able to accomplish more or would he have gotten distracted by Twitter? • The same could be said about students in the classroom or at home studying

VOLUNTEER QUESTIONS & RESPONSES • Does the ubiquity of information in our modern day world because of the internet ultimately help us or hinder us? – Response 1: “More information is always a good thing. ” – Response 2: “It hinders us. Although search engines such as Google make information widely available people often get distracted by other things on the internet. ” • I’ve heard the argument that technology is the reason for an increase in mental health issues. Do you believe this to be true? – Response 1: “Mental health, I believe, is a preexisting condition. The internet does not cause this, however, it can make it worse. ” – Response 2: “There must be another cause for these increases in mental health issues related to technology”

CONCLUSION • Technology is a wonderful thing and many of us enjoy it on

CONCLUSION • Technology is a wonderful thing and many of us enjoy it on a daily basis • It can be distracting but then it can be beneficial we just need to be conscious of its faults • It’s important for teachers to find meaningful ways to use it • Technology is great, especially in media
