What do we know? I. II. III. IV. V. NCDs are costly and represent an increasing burden of disease. NCDs pose a challenge to health systems requiring policy-makers decisions: path towards UHC. Two dimensions: individual and collective. Solution needs to be multisectoral (what are countries of the region doing? ) Policy interventions identified as more effective, cost-effective (WHO “best-buys”) and equitable?

Challenges ahead • To generate evidence and quantify the economic and welfare impact of NCDs on individuals, households and the economy. a – Impact on household’s income, ipact to cope with NCDs costs, and long term care is almost inexistent in the NCDs literature. – Macroeconomic and fiscal impact. • Scattered evidence available on NCDs impact on health systems. • How to involve other sectors? : NCDs are not only a “heath” problem. • And more ….
