Stage: The area of theatre where the action takes place. Actor: A person that acts as a character upon the stage. Director: A person who directs actors where to move on the stage. Stage Directions: Directions that apply to the different areas of the stage. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010 2
In the beginning of theatre, actors performed on a flat stage and the audience sat on a flat floor. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010 3

Then someone thought of the “RAKED” stage so the audience could see all the actors. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010 5
The director needed terminology to tell the actors where to move on the stage. So they came up with Stage Directions. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010 6
