TECHNICAL AND ADAPTIVE CHALLENGES

What is a positional leader? What is a personal leader? What does it

What is a positional leader? What is a personal leader? What does it mean to lead without a title? Which type of leader are you? Can you be both? POSITIONAL AND PERSONAL LEADERSHIP

You notice in your chapter that service projects are at an all time low.

You notice in your chapter that service projects are at an all time low. Very few projects are happening, and the ones that do happen have very low attendance. When the President addresses this issue in chapter meeting, the members who do attend service events become defensive and verbally attack the remaining members for not pulling their weight. When the President addresses this issue in chapter meeting, the members who do attend service events become defensive and verbally attack the remaining members for not pulling their weight. • • What is the problem? You overhear a conversation in the band hall regarding the chapter’s image. Two bandmembers have very negative views of the chapter. When you ask them about their positions, they say that Kappa is exclusive, doesn’t do anything worthwhile, and serves only themselves. Upon further investigation of other non. Kappa members, similar sentiments emerge. • • Your chapter is voting to allow someone into the chapter. This particular PM creates a lot of controversy in the chapter. The chapter votes, and the President calls over the other officers of the chapter. After 3 minutes of them discussing, it is announced that this member will be initiated. When you talk about the delay with the President, she tells you that the vote was so close and there were many abstentions that she became confused and made a judgement call to allow the person to join even though they did not technically have the votes necessary to join. Third Degree is in a week. You notice that chapter meetings have become chaotic. Members talk over each other, several side conversations occur, members do not show up for meeting, members disagree on just about everything if they speak. The President seems to be doing very little and appears apathetic. What is the problem? Is this a technical problem, adaptive challenge, or both? What are the technical/adaptive aspects of the problem? What are solutions for those aspects?

How did you decide between technical and adaptive? How do Technical and Adaptive

How did you decide between technical and adaptive? How do Technical and Adaptive play into Positional and Personal Leadership? Where can you see this working in your chapter?
