Opening Day Saturday, Sept 9 th 9: 00 a. m. to 2: 00 p. m. • Parade starts at 9: 00 am – Line up begins at 8: 45 am – Please encourage your team to participate • Games and Activities are FREE • There will be a banner contest with prizes by division • Plan to eat lunch with all of the food choices • Sign up for your team’s shift before you leave tonight All teams must send one volunteer to work Opening Day They must sign up for shift via Sign-up Genius: Find link “For Parents” Page at www. ayso 34. org or check your Team Parent email with link

Banner Contest Make Your Own Banner for a chance to win $50! Requirements are as follows: Max size: 6 ft L x 3 ft H Min size: 3 ft L x 2 fr H Team Name: at least 6 inches high AYSO Region 34: at least 3 inches high Division: at least 3 inches high Must be able to hang on fence; no metal rods Judging takes place after Opening Day Parade Prizes will be awarded by division for hand-made banners plus one prize for best overall original graphic design Or you can order banners from any vendor (does not qualify for banner contest) www. probanners. com (discount code for $65 banner: GOAL)

Picture Day Saturday, September 9 th • Pictures will be taken at Alta Vista Park on the K 5 and K 6 Fields on Opening Day starting at 8: 00 am – Upper divisions may be scheduled during Parade – Help keep your team in order and on-time • Order forms can be printed from website – Send the form as an email attachment to your team or send the link to make it easy – Make sure parents bring forms and checks with them if they want to order pictures. Credit cards also accepted. – Team that have 100% team members purchase something will be entered into $150 raffle! • Picture Schedule will be available after Labor Day • Make-up pictures will be September 16 th

Snack Bar • All teams (U 6+) must volunteer at least one shift throughout the season • Schedule will be posted to www. ayso 34. org website after Labor Day • Shifts last 3 -4 hours • Snack Bar Coordinator & Auxiliaries needed – Auxiliaries are responsible for training volunteers for a minimum of five shifts – Coordinator is a Board position – manage auxiliaries, shift schedule, inventory – Earn Ref points towards Beach Cup!

Sportsmanship, Beach Cup and Ref Rewards • Good Sportsmanship – – When player is hurt, take a knee Parents cheer, they DO NOT coach No challenging the refs calls Zero tolerance of Youth Ref Abuse • Beach Cup Points – Each team needs to qualify by earning ref points (2 -3 refs team) – If you don’t have referees, your team probably won’t play – Some points can also be earned by being a Snack Bar Auxilary

Sportsmanship, Beach Cup and Ref Rewards Division Points to Qualify U 10 26 U 12 33 U 14 40 • Points are earned primarily by refereeing games. Other ways to earn points for Beach Cup qualification include: • Recruiting New Referees (up to 3 points per new referee) – Teams will be awarded one bonus point for each new referee that attends Regional Referee training and referees one game. One additional bonus point can be earned for refereeing a second and third game, to a maximum of three points per new referee. These points are earned in addition to normal referee match points • Volunteer as Snack Bar Auxiliary (15 points) - This involves working 20 hours (5 four-hour shifts). Snack bar auxiliary is a snack bar management position that requires supervising incoming snack bar volunteers. It does not replace snack bar volunteer duty.

Sportsmanship, Beach Cup and Ref Rewards The region encourages volunteers from U 5 -U 8 teams to referee and as an incentive, the Region will award money to go towards the team party. TRAINERS/CLINICS Coach and Player Development (Mark – EVO) • Trainers – Teams will be provided a professional trainer for 1 practice session to work with Coach and Team. • Darice Mason will email coach and DC with date and time. Coaches please reply after receipt of email confirming time and location are correct. • Player Clinics (Run by EVO Trainers) – Recommend Players attend. More touches! – Dates: Fridays - Sep. 15, 22, 29 and Oct. 6 th – Times: – 4 pm – 7 Us/8 Us – 5 pm – 10 Us – 6 pm – 12 Us/14 Us – Players should only attend time for their division. – Coaches encouraged to attend clinic to learn new drills.

Parent Player Pledge Parent Pledge In my words and my actions I pledge to: Attend and participate in team parent meetings as requested. 2. Be on time or early when dropping off or picking up my child for training or games. 3. Ensure my child is supported and encouraged by family or loved ones at games. 4. Encourage my child to have fun and keep sport in its proper perspective. 5. Define winning for my child as doing his/her very best and appreciate Development over Winning. 6. Endeavor to understand the Laws (rules) of soccer and support the efforts of referees. 7. Honor the game and show respect for all involved including coaches, players, opponents, spectators and referees. 8. Applaud and encourage players from both teams and not yell out instructions (as this causes confusion to the players and ultimately hinders development). 9. Refrain from making negative comments about the game, coaches, referees or players, especially from the sidelines. 10. Encourage others to refrain from negative or abusive sideline behavior. 11. As parents, keep the game in perspective for our children (as a pastime, sport, fun, exercise). 12. Abide by the tenets of Kids Zone for appropriate sideline behavior and support AYSO’s philosophies for enriching children’s lives. 1.

Parent Player Pledge In my words and my actions I pledge to: 1. Play for the sake of playing a game, not just to please a parent or coach. 2. Always give my best effort and work as hard for my teammates as I do for myself. 3. Treat all players as I would like to be treated. 4. Be a team player. 5. Be a good sport and support good plays whether they are made by my team or my opponents. 6. Abide by the Laws of the Game. 7. Cooperate with my coaches, teammates, opponents and the referee. 8. Never argue with or complain about referee calls or decisions. 9. Control my temper when I feel I have been wronged. 10. Not use offensive or abusive language. 11. Remember that the object of the game is to win, but the goal is to enjoy myself and give my best effort.

Player Safety Comes First If a player or volunteer is injured during an AYSO sponsored activity, the coach must notify the Regional Safety Director, Melisa Sanchez. • Fill out the Incident Report Form • These forms are available on the website. Must do it ASAP (within 24 hours) Make sure all volunteers complete volunteer form for the current year through www. eayso. org!

Player Safety continued • If the referee sends a player off the field because they suspect a concussion, the player is NOT to return to the field that day. • Free training is available from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) www. cdc. gov/concussion/Heads. Up/online _training. html

Policies - Casts/Jewelry Casts, Splints. . . • • Not allowed. Players with casts or splints may NOT play in games even if the cast is padded and the player has been cleared by a Doctor. Earrings, Piercings. . . • • • Not allowed. Earrings, piercings, jewelry (bracelets), etc. , must be removed before the player can take the field. Medical Alert bracelets are allowed, but must be taped. No Heading the ball (U 12 and below) • • Heading is not allowed for U 12 and below If ball is headed, an indirect free kick goes to opposing team

Fields and Equipment • • • Set up and Take down – who is responsible? Where is the equipment? Poor Weather Conditions – who decides? Trash and Sidelines – we all have to help out Parras & AVS – No food and drink, WATER ONLY!

Final Notes • Make sure you sign up for the Opening Day shifts • Get your volunteers now! Identify possible refs early and ask for help if you don’t have enough. Encourage those on the fence to get trained and try it! • Check the www. ayso 34. org website regularly forms, field maps, incident reports, schedules, handouts and upcoming training and events • Game schedules will be posted after Labor Day – after that, Pictures and Snack Bar Schedule • Practice good and timely communication with parents • We are here to help your teams!
