As College Board states “The team: Collaboratively synthesizes and evaluates individual findings and perspectives to create a collective understanding of different approaches to the problem or issue; Considers potential solutions or resolutions and conducts additional research in order to evaluate different solutions within the context of the problem; and Proposes one or more solutions or resolutions and prepares an argument to support their proposal. Note: Upon conclusion of the presentation each group member will be posed an Oral Defense question.

Logistics and Requirements Every group member should contribute to the building of the presentation and the actual delivering of information on presentation day! 6 -8 minute time limit This will be recorded. Prepare for an oral defense

Steps for Completing Task 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Pick a real-word problem/issue that can be solved (based on your compelling question!!) Compare your IRRs with your group so everyone can see the sides presented. Develop an argument (NO LONGER JUST REPORTING) Determine your solution (This may be your thesis, but at least must directly relate to it!!) Create your *Academic* presentation (professional audience). Present on your perspective/solution and alternate perspectives/solutions. The oral defense will follow the presentation.

Creating the Presentation You are not limited to Powerpoint, but have a comfortable form of presentation to be used along with your speaking. Not every group member’s research needs to be “seen” → “It didn’t fit in well so we did not focus on that perspective…” Your time will be shown to you at the back of the room, but practice so that you stay within the appropriate time limit. Be sure to reference things you choose to include within your presentation (e. g. charts)

Oral Defense You should be prepared to individually answer a question at the conclusion

Oral Defense You should be prepared to individually answer a question at the conclusion of your presentation. Here a list of potential questions. Please note that it is possible that you may get a question not on the provided list. Your reply should be individualized and not shared between members of the group.

Exemplar Row 1: 6 (high) Row 2: 6 (high) Row 3: 3 (high) Row 4: 3 (high) This was a low “high” because there was at least one moment where a group member looked down at the notecards too much. The notecards should only be referenced if needed sparingly. Row 5: 2 (medium) There were some places that were not as cohesive as they could have been. Transitions should be spot on and flow well. Also, each group member should individually answer the oral defense question posed while avoiding “piggy-backing” off of another individual’s reply. Row 6: 2 (medium) You must provide specific EVIDENCE within your answer to the oral defense! Essentially try to do a quick SPES…

Good Presenting Tips Make eye contact with audience Do not fidget/move too much…on the other hand do not be a statue Use note cards if needed, but do not read directly from the slides If the bell/phone rings while you are presenting then pause. Your presentation can either make your argument BETTER or WORSE. The choice is up to you!
