EDUCATIONAL THEME • Children who go to school from kindergarten through high school spend an average of 13, 000 hours of their developing brains time in front of their teacher • Their brains are highly susceptible to influences such as social, physical, cognitive, and emotional. • Their brains WILL be altered by their experiences in school.
PERSONAL RESPONSE This book has an amazing amount of research included. Each page is filled with studies and it is not a book that should be read in one sitting. It makes a great point about how quickly ideas of the brain change and even as I write, this book has become outdated like the last i. Phone. I believe this is the future of training in education. Flashy curriculum will probably come and go each year as it has been doing. As we understand the mind of a student better in the coming years, it will be easier to make concrete changes in our schools. As far as I can tell only technology is moving faster. Understanding how learning works can only make you a better educator, and I’m grateful to have read this.
