Intermediate Conversation: Final Project • Fifth-Semester Course • Project could be adapted for most courses/other levels.
Three Modes of Communication • Interpretive • Interpersonal • Presentational
Five Main Stages • Introduction to project • Training on technology • Brainstorming ideas, characters, plot • Editing and posting films • Watching films and recording dialogue
Stage One: Introduction to Project • Model video by professor created on goanimate. com • Interpretive mode: students listen and answer/react • Students receive a sheet with project description and expectations as well as timeline
Stage Two: Technology • Training in language “lab” on goanimate. com. • Basic service is free and easy-to-use. • Students must sign-up prior to the technology session. • Individuals have time to play.
Stage Three: Creation • Students work in pairs to brainstorm ideas: Interpersonal. • Choose characters, themes and scenes. • Must work together to create an animated video that has narrative cohesion. • Target language is used throughout.
Stage Four: Editing and Posting Films • Students complete final edits outside of class. • Save the video and post to D 2 L in a discussion forum.
Stage Five: Viewing and Recording • Viewing of another group’s video posted on D 2 L. • Interpretation and discussion of what they have seen: Interpersonal. • Recording of dialogue and reposting: presentational. • Sample
