Teaching English as a Foreign Language Through Songs
Aim • To find out whether using songs as an aid for teaching English is effective • Reflection on my teaching
Introduction • Music – an excellent tool for teaching parts of the human body - words in music, with students pointing to parts of body, effective tool. - associates what he hears with what he sees (teacher models)
Literature Review Schoepp: songs can develop the 4 skill areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking Songs can be used: - to present a topic, a language point, vocabulary, etc. - to focus on common learner errors in a more direct way
- to encourage extensive, intensive listening - to stimulate discussion of attitudes, feelings - to encourage creativity, use of imagination
• Suzanne L. Medina – “Using Music to Enhance L 2 Acquisition: From Theory to Practice” - using music as a vehicle for second language learning is consistent with Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence
