Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning Math 1010 pilot class example: I write the following in a box in a corner of the white board at the beginning of the class: Describe your function in the following ways: Symbolically – Verbally – Numerically – Graphically – (both a scatterplot and a graph) Diagrammatically – I then have the students get into groups of three, and then read the following to them: “Let a function compute a sales tax of 7% on a purchase of x dollars. ” “ 3, 2, 1, GO” After giving them about 3 – 5 minutes, we discuss and add to what they came up with.
