A Nevada middle school student shot and killed a teacher and wounded two students

A Nevada middle school student shot and killed a teacher and wounded two students Monday before fatally shooting himself in the nation's latest horrific act of school violence. Police said the teacher, 45 -year-old Michael Landsberry, at Sparks Middle School died trying to protect students. Landsberry was a popular math teacher at the middle school. According to a witness, “the student was pointing a gun at the teacher. After the teacher told him to put it down, and the student fired a shot. . . at the teacher and the teacher fell and everybody ran away. " Both of the wounded students were hospitalized in stable condition Monday night. They were shot in the cafeteria and in a hallway. One was shot in the stomach, the other in the shoulder. The gunman eventually shot and killed himself. The boy, whom authorities have not identified, took his parents' handgun to school. Police said today they are hoping to interview the estimated 20 to 30 witnesses who heard or saw gunfire and hope by talking to students they will be able to determine the suspect's motive and whether he shot indiscriminately or was targeting specific victims.
