CURRICULUM REFORMS IN THE PHILIPPINES AS TRANSFORMATIVE MOMENTS
The world is in the throes of an epochal change, a transformation: one age is dying and a “new age” does not seem to have emerged. (Montuori & Donnelly, 2017)

…it is not possible to have a teacherproof curriculum since teachers mediate the curriculum in ways which are often antithetical to policy intentions, leading to an implementation gap and often to unintended consequences. Priestley, M. , Biesta, G. J. J. , Philippou, S. & Robinson, S. (2015). The teacher and the curriculum: Exploring teacher agency.
the achievement of agency is always informed by past experience (professional and personal experience)…always orientated towards the future (shorter term and longer term objectives and values)…always enacted in a concrete situation (both constrained and supported by cultural, structural and material resources available to actors). Priestley, M. , Biesta, G. J. J. , Philippou, S. & Robinson, S. (2015). The teacher and the curriculum: Exploring teacher agency.
School leadership is second only to classroom teaching as an influence on pupil learning (Darling-Hammond & Ducommun, 2010). …not enough to know that ‘leadership matters’; it is also important to know what aspects of school leadership are more or less effective (Halasz, 2011).
TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP THEORY The basic premise of transformative leadership is that everyone can lead, and that particularly in this transformative moment, everybody contributes to, and in fact cocreates, the world we live in, whether conscious of their agency or not.
• • TL is “everyone, everywhere, everyday” leadership. Everyone can be a Transformative Leader. does not involve a specific type of person, position in any system; no privileged locus; no specific roles and lines of authority or a community; manifest in any context, crossing the divide between “public” and “private; ” proposes that “everyday” activities and small additional incremental actions can be transformative.
Transformative leadership bridges “Heroic Leadership” and “Leaderless Organizations. ” (Montuori & Donnelly 2017)
Creative Inquiry: Learning and Unlearning to Lead TL is a journey of exploration and creation; it is a journey into the unknown, where the future is a path laid down in walking that requires an ongoing process of creative inquiry. (Montuori & Donnelly 2017)
