Teach For Raub FREE EDUCATION FOR THOSE IN NEEDS (ONE-TO-ONE TUTOR PROGRAMME)
Introduction Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2007: 18% and 20% of Malaysia’s (TIMMS, 2007). students failed to meet the minimum proficiency levels in Mathematics. PISSA 2009: most 60% of the 15 -year-old failed to meet the minimum proficiency level in Mathematics, while 44% and 43% did not meet the minimum proficiency levels in Reading. Illiteracy cause 44. 2% subjects have dropped out of school due to illiteracy in one research (Khokhar, Garg, & Bharti, 2005). By 2010, only 15% Malaysians aged 15 and above attained tertiary education and only 61% attained secondary education 9% of them had no schooling (Barro & Lee, 2010) (Barro & Lee, 2010; Khokhar, Garg & Bharti, 2005).
Might be under reported, locally Illiteracy (cannot read even high frequeny words) by the age of 10: Innumeracy (do simple calculation, division and multiplication) by the age of 10: 2 out of 20 students (5 %) 4 out of 20 students (10%) Left out in education due to lack of seniority and guidance No proper teacher after teaching session in school: cannot afford extra classes Lack of attention from authority: selected contribution ‘Not my job’: Volunteering is no more than volunteering Started since May 2014
Theme: Education Raising awareness of underprivileged community in others’ eyes. Creating a culture of volunteering and participation in the community of Raub, Pahang. Relieving the educational gap between the privileged and underprivileged students. Creating a feeling of emphatic and loving others despite the differences of economic background and skin colours amongst community in Raub, Pahang. Ending the poverty cycles amongst underprivileged children.

Expected Outcome/Impact Increase of students’ attendance to school and improvements in their academic results. Increase of motivations and attitudes towards learning, assignments and towards teachers, self-esteem and confidence. 100% literacy and numeracy of students by 12. Love-bond relationships are formed between volunteers and the underprivileged students.

Future Plan The class will continue along with other events. But for activities needs funding such as family day, volunteer workshops, trips, we need to find funding from optional sponsors via: Fundraising Donations Personal and Corporate sponsorship.

Conclusion Lessening the academic gaps between these under-privileged students from their fellow friends, academically. Build confidence in students. Students (especially orphanages) can feel brotherly and sisterly love. Students can feel and experience what they cannot afford to experience or in terms of monetarily via activities such as field trips and family day. Culture of ‘volunteering’ became ‘ social responsibilities’ culture instead.
