TD-SCDMA Milestones In China 8 Year Development Path (1998~2006) Market Application Phase Product Development Phase Products network tests were completed in H 1 05, and all will be ready for market in 2006. The research of technology migration path has already started. Kicked off with the establishment of DTmobile on Feb. 2002. The process lasted until the end of 2004. Technology Two phases of MTNet tests, including indoor and field Testification Phase tests, were completed from 1999 to 2002. Standard TD-SCDMA standard was proposed in July 1998 and accepted by Development Phase ITU and 3 GPP respectively by the end of 2001. China Academy of Telecommunications and Technology (CATT) submitted TD-SCDMA proposal to the ITU on behalf of the Chinese government in June 1998. DTmobile, as the sub company of CATT, is involved in TD-SCDMA R&D, industrialization and commercialization in China and throughout the world.

Why to Choose TD-HSDPA? • • Optimally enhance the performance of TD-SCDMA system Maximally guarantee backward compatibility and the scalability of system Provide flexibility to guarantee the most efficient use of resources ONLY need software upgrade to smoothly migrate from TD-SCDMA R 4 to TD-HSDPA • • • The peak rate of TD-HSDPA may reach N* 2. 8 Mbps (N=number of carriers) when UL/DL timeslot ratio is 1: 5. The peak rate 16. 8 Mbps, already higher than the 14. 4 Mbps of WCDMA-based HSDPA, can be reached on 10 MHz bandwidth. As to WCDMA based HSDPA, if on 10 MHz, requires continuous 5 MHz timeslots on UL and DL respectively, while TD-HSDPA may take use of 6 separated carriers (1. 28 MHz each). Considering the limited frequency resource, this is an obvious advantage of TD-SCDMA over WCDMA. Regarding the deployment of both R 4 and HSDPA networks, the narrow bandwidth based TD-HSDPA has many advantages on the efficiency of resource allocation and the simplicity and flexibility of configuration over WCDMA HSDPA.
