TCDSB Long Term Program Plan Presented Tuesday March
TCDSB Long Term Program Plan Presented Tuesday, March 27 th, 2007 (abridged Nov ‘ 09)
Long Term Program Plan (LTPP) n Program strong driver in LTAP n Key Considerations: n Catholic presence in all communities n Innovative and competitive programs n Compete with Private and Co-Terminous Board/schools – not our own Catholic neighbouring Secondary Schools Interconnection within our communities n Range of programs – opportunities for all students n System perspective n Fiscal responsibility n
Brief Update (since April 2007) n 14 new Pathways Fast Forward Programs for a total of 24 across the system n 9 new Special High Skills Major Programs n 5 Dual Credit Programs n 7 new “specialty programs” n New LTPP committee has been resuscitated. n Goal: Updated Plan by Spring 2009 n Consultation with SSPA pending in Dec 09.
Two key considerations: n Program is a key component in ensuring the viability of any given secondary school, however enrolment drivers are complex and caution should be observed in drawing 1: 1 correlations between any given program and enrolment. n As schools in a collaborative enterprise of ensuring the viability of Catholic Education and a strong presence in the GTA, it is necessary to assess all schools within the SARC for what programs may needed to be added or moved. n Consideration of elementary programming in the area may also be warranted, particularly if considering a K-12 or 7 -12 option.
Secondary LTPP n Innovative programming seen as key n Specialty programs: provide students with a particular curriculum focus to assist them in meeting diploma requirements and in making the transition to post-secondary destinations. ( OSS, Grades 9 – 12, Program and Diploma Requirements, 7. 4, 1999) n Fast Forward: n Leading to Workplace or College Pathways n “Specialty Programs” as employed in LTPP: n Leading to College or University Pathways
