Introduction n “Part of learning dance is being open to learning new movement patterns— new ways of doing things. Often you will find that your habitual way of moving is only that—a habit—and, if you are willing to explore new ways, you will expand your physical options” (Sofras, 2006, p. 6. ). n In this lesson we will find new ways of developing movements and shapes and turning this into a movement sequence. n Each movement sequence must have a beginning, middle and an end.
Winter Olympic Sports n The Winter Olympic Games are a multi-sport event held every four years. The first Winter Olympics was held in 1924. n There were 86 events in 15 disciplines during the recent Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Warm Up n Equipment: pencil/paper Write down as many Winter Olympic Sports you can think of n Make a group of 3 n Compare the sports you could think of to your group members n
Structure Improvisation n In your group of 3, choose 3 movement patterns for the sports listed. n Once you have chosen 3 movement patterns for each sport, each group member must perform one of the movement patterns and turn this into a movement sequence with the next sport e. g. Ice dancing snowboarding mogul skiing
