Task 8 - Blogs By Joanne Hocking.
What is a blog? A blog is a discussion or an informational site which is then published on the world wide web. Blogs are most commonly produced by a single individual, however they can be created by a bigger group of people. Blogs usually just cover one subject and you can write about anything that you desire.
History of the blog The term ‘blog’ was not coined until the late 1990’s. Before blogging became popular, digital communities took many forms some of these including Usenet, commercial online services such as Genie, etc. The term weblog was used in an influential blog called robot wisdom. A sit that was designed for blogging was called ‘blogger’. Many different blog sites are very popular nowadays, such as Tumblr, etc.
Where and why are the used? Blogs are almost the same as websites. They require internet access and also just like a website they will need a website address so that anybody can access this blog if they want to. Blogs are most commonly used in businesses, this is so they can advertise things. Writers may use blogs to gather information that they may want or to show people their information that they have collected. In general people can use blogs to maybe to express their hobbies, etc.
Advantages. The advantages of having a blog are that you can then write down any thoughts or interests that you may have. Blogs are very easy sites to set up and they don’t take a lot of thought to set up. Blogs are also good sites to use because people can leave comments on them for you to then read and then change your blog if need be.
Disadvantages There also many disadvantages that come with setting up a blog. Some of these being that everyone that has internet access can now see your blog. This means that nothing can be private on your blog as anybody can see it. Because anybody can see this you will have to be careful with what you write as some things could offend certain people. Also because people can leave comments they may leave some hurtful or inappropriate comments.
