Task 2: Bitmap and Vector Graphics By Daniel Mc. Roberts
Advantages & disadvantages of Bitmap. § A bitmap is an image which is made up of tiny squares of colour. The arrangement of these tiny coloured squares produce the effect of an image. This is a good method of reproducing 'continuous tone images, such as photographs. § The amount of detail that can be seen in a picture depends on the resolution of the image; how many times per inch these squares or pixels occur. 300 times per inch is what is needed for good quality reproduction on a commercial printing press, and 72 pixels per inch for monitor display. § Bitmaps have two disadvantages. In terms of the amount of digital storage, bitmaps are memory intensive, and the higher the resolution, the larger the file size. § The other disadvantage with bitmaps is when an image is enlarged, the individual coloured squares become visible and the illusion of a smooth image is lost to the viewer. This pixilation makes the image look coarse.
Advantages & disadvantages of vector § Scalable vector graphics are very different from bitmaps. Vectors describe the shape of an object as a series of points connected by curved or straight lines, represented as a mathematical formula. These lines may have a thickness or stroke assigned to them, and the object they create can be filled with colour. § The advantages of using vector graphics are; a small file size and the ability to scale the image to any size without loss of quality; see the image above. They are ideal for logo designs, as they can be printed very small on business cards or printed large on a billboard poster. § Vector graphics, however, cannot reproduce 'continuous tone' photographic images like bitmaps.
Bitmap A bitmap is one of many types of file formats for images stored in a computerized form. It carries the extension. BMP. Computers use bits of 1 and 0 to store data. A bitmap is literally a map of bits that form a particular picture when rendered to a display like a computer monitor. To understand how a bitmap image displays, it’s important to understand the computer display screen. The display is made up of rows and columns of tiny blocks, or pixels. In a bitmap image, each pixel is assigned at least one bit to indicate whether the pixel should reflect the background colour, the foreground colour, or some other colour. In the case of a page of black and white text, let’s consider a single letter. The many pixels that make up that letter only require one bit of data each. Either the pixel will be black or white: 1 or 0. When a bitmap displays a coloured image, such as a lake scene, there are several shades of gradation in colours and lighting. In this case, each pixel in the bitmap might have 16, 24, or 48 bits of information associated with it. The more bits, the greater the resolution of the bitmap – and the larger the file.
Vector § Vector images are made up of many individual, scalable objects. These objects are defined by mathematical equations rather than pixels, so they always render at the highest quality. Objects may consist of lines, curves, and shapes with editable attributes such as colour, fill, and outline. Changing the attributes of a vector object does not effect the object itself. You can freely change any number of object attributes without destroying the basic object. An object can be modified not only by changing its attributes, but also by shaping and transforming it using nodes and control handles. For an example of manipulating an object's nodes, see my Corel. Purpose of features Features: Purpose: Its features are that it warns people of tractor traffic. The red triangle around it is to make t stand out and be seen. This sine warns the public that tractors are one the road. It is in bold so it stands out. The tractor represents a tractor.
Purpose of features This is used for promotion and it is a catchy name and logo This is a company name and it is a very smart name. The back ground is the colour green because it is the same colour as nature and j 2 o is natural Is like water but instead of h 2 o the hydrogen is replaced with juice so j 2 o
Purpose of features The background is white because it would normally be on a tractor The company name is at the bottom of the logo to let you know the name. For most people this is a unknown logo because its a tractor logo. It soot's its purpose well as it is only for a unique tractor audience.
