Task 1: Tone Practice By the time you finish this task you will be able to: 1) 2) 3) 4) To know tone is how light or dark shading is. Be able to show a strong tonal range. To use directional shading following the outline of the object. To blend smoothly from a shadow tone through to a highlight.
Highlight Mid tone Shadow 1. Draw out a rectangle measuring 16 cm by 2 cm divide it into 8 boxes. 2. Shade each box darker than the one before 3. Draw out a rectangle measuring 16 cm b 2 cm 4. Smoothly shade from as light to as dark as your pencil can go, applying more pressure and more layers of pencil. 5. Copy out the text.
Use directional shading follow the outline of the object e. g shade the circle in a circular motion. Draw out a circle, triangle and square. Shade in each of these shapes showing a darker tone on the outside and blending into a lighter tone in the middle.
