Vehicles: BIO –SECURITY Farms l Minimize entry of vehicles to farm / sites. l Entry through single locked gate. l Fully disinfect vehicles, body, under -body, wheels, tires and driver cabin. l Veterinarian to specify disinfectants and their concentrations in footbaths and vehicles wheel dips. l The holding area of the farm trucks should be cleaned disinfected once/day.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Vehicles (cont. ): l Field services vehicles should not enter the sites and must be re-cleaned and disinfected in the services area after any trip. l Trucks used for culls, spent hens, and dead birds transfer, should be vigorously cleaned and fully disinfected before leaving the dispatch area.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Vehicles (cont. ): l Driver not to leave his cabin. If other wise, changing clothes, showering, using coverall supplied by the farm, after disinfecting the vehicle and the cabin carefully, is a must. l Disinfection pit should be large enough for vehicle wheels at each entrance gate. l Trucks should be disinfected at the main entrance and again at the farm gate.
People: BIO –SECURITY Farms l Closing , footwear and exposed body (eg. hair) can transmit the disease. l Periodical educational meetings for staff training. l Manager is responsible for overseeing entry and records of entry. l Keep a record of entry - visitors book
People (cont. ) : BIO –SECURITY Farms l Discourage visitors and minimize entry of people to farms. l Disinfect hands hair and shoes/overshoes before entering the 1 st barrier. l Poultry and poultry products not allowed to be entered. l Entry to sites through one single locked gate.
BIO –SECURITY Farms People ( cont. ) : l At Wadi 2 farms, second barrier station at which people should stop, redisinfect hands and shoes, fumigate bags, contents, change clothes, take a shower and use the farm clothes and shoes /slippers. l Keep the site record of entry - visitor book. l Clean and dirty areas of the whole farm must be defined and clearly identified.
BIO –SECURITY Farms People ( cont. ) : l To enter clean area of Noubaria farm, all visitors must disinfect hands, hair and shoes shower/change into farm clothing and use slippers / shoes. l To enter the clean area of the site all visitors and Wadi staff must disinfect hands, hair and shoes, shower again and change into shoes, underwear, overall and coat supplied by farm.
BIO –SECURITY Farms People (cont. ) : l In the breeder sites, slippers must be used outside sheds, to be changed to white plastic shoes upon entering the sheds. l Use a disnifection pit for every house. l Plastic shoes must be dipped in a disinfection footbath outside the shed, then dipped again in footbath inside the shed.
BIO –SECURITY Farms People (cont. ) : l Veterinarians to specify types and concentration of disinfectants for hands and footbaths. l Field service staff must audit on farm procedures. l All poultry staff and workers to report immediately any unusual levels of death or sickness to Wadi veterinarians / management.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Equipment and bedding material: l Clean /disinfect all equipment into farm using approved disinfectants and procedures. l Equipment includes : day old chick-boxes , pullet crates, egg trays, egg trolleys, shed dividers, vaccination and beak trimming equipment, scales, pullet boxes, maintenance equipment etc. . . l Each facility /station should be supplied with a high pressure disinfectant sprayer.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Equipment and bedding material (cont. ): l Each farm/site should have its own maintenance equipment. Special equipment to be cleaned and spray disinfected or fumigated or UV treated before entry. l Wood shavings ( nest and floor bedding material) from bird-proof storage areas , each batch should be fumigated with formaldehyde powder. l Move bedding material to the farm in tightly closed bags.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Equipment and bedding material (cont. ): l Nest bedding material to be treated with 5 gram powdered formalin / week / nest. l Each farm to be fully supplied with vaccination and post mortum utensils for its own use to be cleaned and disinfected after each use. l Thorough cleaning and disinfection of houses and equipment to be checked by vet. lab swabs results, followed by high level of quarantine and rest of two weeks period.
BIO – SECURITY Farms Spiking : l Males spiking from other farm/site is not allowed. l In - site males kept in a small house may be used for spiking when necessary
BIO – SECURITY Farms Culls and dead birds : l Dead birds on the farm(s) are to be hygienically buried on site in burial pits or to be transported inside clean closed bags to the vet. lab. or for disposal outside the farm / site. l Sexing errors or cull birds and table eggs are transported to the dedicated sales station, using dirty road only. l Keep all roads and spaces between sheds always clean. Disinfect them morning and afternoon daily using 3 % formalin.
BIO – SECURITY Farms Culls and dead birds ( cont. ) : l Dirty roads should be carefully cleaned after moving culls or spent hens during the dispatch period and to be sprayed 3 -4 times daily with 3 % formalin disinfectant. l Vigorous clean and spray - disinfect culls, spent hens , table eggs and dead birds dispatch area and pathways.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Rodents and insects : l Rodents and insects could carry AIV into sheds. l Remove any hiding materials around the farms sites. l Implement an effective rodent/ insects control program(feed, food, water and chemical poisons)in the farm sites/sheds and around staff housing. l Poultry houses must be surrounded with gravel.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Rodents and insects ( cont. ) : l Effectively close any shed holes to avoid rodent/ E insects entry and multiplication. l Avoid static water sources. l Avoid feed/egg wastage outside sheds. l Insure shed doors tightly closed to avoid entry of rodents / insects. l Use rodents / insects trapping. Mechanical rodents killing may assist.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Rodents and insects ( cont. ) : l Keep the daily dead birds of each shed in a plastic K bag, in a tightly closed container before transfer. l Cover all openings and feed silos and water storage tanks to prevent entry of rodents / insects. l Various, routinely changed , registered rodenticides / insecticides to be used according to producer instructions.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Domestic animals ( Dogs, cats, … ) : l Don’t permit any animal to enter site/ shed. l Insure fence height level and tightness to prevent wild animals entering the farms/sites. l Use wild animal hunting/trapping in the farm spaces between sites.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Domestic animals ( cont. ) : l Distribute food and water poisons for wild animal. l Disburse small water spots and avoid static water sources. l Avoid human food waste at the farm/site level. l Keep the dead birds in tightly closed plastic bags within a covered container until dispatch.

BIO –SECURITY Farms Wild domestic birds : l Healthy carriers /diseased or dead wild/domestic birds, waterfowl (particularly ducks and geese) poultry and feaces, are the main sources of infection/spread. l Periodically trim trees, destroy wild bird nests and burn them. l Don’t keep other birds or poultry on farms /sites.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Wild domestic birds ( cont. ) : l Impose one age group rearing per farm/site. l No vegetation between sheds, or near farm/site fences. l Minimize wild birds on farm by preventing and cleaning up feed spills. l Avoid small water spots and static water sources.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Wild domestic birds ( cont. ) : l Maintain shed wild bird netting and prevent roosting/ nesting on sheds. l Cover all openings to feed silos and water storage tanks to prevent entry of wild birds or birds feaces. l Keep the two doors of the shed closed. Upon entry close one first before the second one is opened.
BIO –SECURITY Farms Wild domestic birds ( cont. ) : l Destroy any sick/dead wild birds by burning before touching. l All equipment /bedding material that enters sheds to be stored in bird proof areas on farm/site. l Nest materials in storage, to be treated with formalin powder routinely once a week.
Water: BIO –SECURITY Farms l AIV can survive and be isolated from water. l Drinking, cooling water sources must be clean /cholrinated (3 -5 ppm) and in a totally enclosed system from the supply into the sheds. l Water used for showering must be treated with chlorine at (10 ppm)level. l Apply proper maintenance to the water pipes outside sheds and staff housing to avoid standing water spots.
BIO –SECURITY Farms erosols – dust infection : l Aerosol transmission to farm can occur if nearby poultry or other birds are infected with AI virus or from aerosolized infected feaces. l Regular disinfection of yards and walk ways and between houses. l Day old chicks are to be sourced from AI free certified GP flocks. l Dead birds on the farm are to be hygienically buried or to be transported inside clean bags and disinfected before leaving the site to the vet. lab or disposal pit.
