Problems that Tactile Learners can Experience in a Classroom • These students are often easily distracted. • These students can become frustrated with auditory teaching strategies. • These students are unable to reach their full learning potential when required to learn in a primarily auditory or visual learning environment.
Characteristics of Tactile Learners • The tactile learner will learn most effectively when the learning process activates the sense of touch. • Has a preference for touching, and/or building. • Memory is stimulated by feeling objects. • Facts, impressions, and concepts are learned and remembered because the brain and senses can associate the new learning with something experienced and this 'feels' right.
Learning Strategies for Tactile Learners: • • • working in a standing position the activity of highlighting while reading, using bright colors decorating work space with visual stimuli such as posters listening to music while studying frequent study breaks to briefly move around drawing or doodling while taking notes in class
