Systems of Early identification – ‘My Class’ Survey and Sociograms • A sociogram is a visual representation of interpersonal relationships within a group. It gives information on how children are included in their class. • Can be used as a pre and post impact and evaluation measure for Working With Others • They help teachers and other staff understand more about pupils' peer relationships. It is often a useful starting point for identifying and addressing the social and emotional needs of pupils. • The sociogram helps staff to be aware of patterns of acceptance and rejection within the peer group using a visual representation.
How to Administer Simple version: The children are asked to nominate three classmates with whom they most like to work with and three classmates with whom they least like to work with. This can be done using a class list and paper nominations. A member of staff will need to input data using online tools where a sociogram can be created analysed. What to do with the Information See Guidance! • Use groupings and nominations to help include neglected and rejected children • Raise profile of some children • Give some individuals a chance to show their positive behaviours • Randomly pair and group children as much as possible using WWO tools • Whole class work where a very rejected child may benefit
