Systems in Technology Objectives Define system component troubleshooting
Systems in Technology Objectives: ØDefine: system, component, troubleshooting, feedback, and automation ØDraw and label an open and closed loop systems model ØList advantages and disadvantages to each type of system
Definition: System. A combination of parts that work together as a whole.
3 Types: • Mechanical Uses moving parts like motors, springs, etc. • Electrical Uses electrical parts like wires, switches, etc. • Fluid Pneumatic- Uses gasses Hydraulic- Uses Liquids
Definition: Component. One part of a system.
Definition: Troubleshooting. Trying to find the problem that needs to be fixed.
Definition: Feedback. Helpful information found by monitoring a system.
Definition: Automation. The automatic control of a process by a machine.
____ System Open Loop P. E. T. T. R. I. C. Input Process Desired result Where work gets done Output Actual results
Open Loop Advantages Few parts, cheap, easier to troubleshoot. Open Loop Disadvantages Cannot adjust itself. You get whatever comes out! Lacks feedback control.
_____ Closed_____ Loop System Input Adjust Compare Process Output Monitor Closed Loop Systems have a Feedback Loop!
Step What happens at each step Input Desired result. Process Where work gets done. Output Monitor Actual results Desired, undesired, expected, or unexpected. Sensors that observe the output. Compares the output with the input. Adjusts only if needed. and Adjust
Closed Loop Advantages Uses a feedback loop to adjust itself. Fewer mistakes. Closed Loop Disadvantages More parts, more expensive, troubleshooting more difficult.
