Systeme d’alerte Cholera Prevention – Surveillence through Community Epidemiologique engagement in a Baseand Surveillance Communautaire WASH Interventions A Solidarity to vulnerable communities severely affected by disasters in series leading to the massive spread of the cholera epidemic The 2010 earthquake has exacerbated the WASH vulnerabilities in the population (64 % of the population got their water supplies from rivers, unprotected source); 29% of Sanitation coverage In the urban areas and 12% in rural areas) ▪ If urban water systems were defective, older than 50 years, there was no collective sanitation system. Individuals resorted to many risky practices: open defecation, manual emptying of latrines, septic tanks etc… ▪ WASH infrastructures in Hospitals and Health Centers were Severely damaged and put at risk patients, accompanying persons and medical staff ▪ Only a few months after its creation in 2009, DINEPA whose mission is reforming the system of water supply Sanitation in Haiti, experienced its worst trials through the earthquake and cholera epidemic ▪ www. ifrc. org Sauver des vies, changer les mentalités.
