SYNOPTIC PROJECT GAME PITCH BY TYLER LAVERICK
THE CONCEPT For those with a love of retro style graphics from the SNES and Gameboy era, my game is a 2 D Beat em'up/ platformer with a classic pixel artstyle, that focuses on tight, to the press platforming with a smooth trasition to responsive, Beat em'up combat. My game also features an avatar customization which connects to different items you can use, allowing players to overcome an obstacle in a different way to one another.
STORY You are a part of a group of runners who live in a police state where you are only allowed to follow the rules put in place by the Government, However as a runner you rebel agaisnt these rules, following your own and spreading the word of self-expression. As you slowly spread the message through graffiti and style to every corner, you'll gain followers to help you win the fight agasint the tyranical Government and free the state.
Gameplay Features • Tight, fluid platforming • Different areas to visit • Multiple items to help with overcoming obstacles, can backtrack to use them to get to new areas(metroidvania style) • Obstacles can be tackled in different ways • Character customization allows for players to have a character that is unique to them • Different enemies to fight, varied in strength connected to progression The player has a hub like area where they can cool off from the gameplay but also customize their character to their own liking.
Mood board • Main theme is about selfexpression. • Character customization allows you to show off your style. • Contrast of varied colours vs balck and white(Runners vs Government). • Fluid platforming similar to what is seen in Celeste.
Audience and Market 2 D platformers are a classic of the video game industry and are as old as the industry itself. Games such as Shovel Knight and in more recent times Celeste show that there is still an interest in pixel art based 2 D platformers as both of them have gained great success from their targeted audience. There is also not many 2 D platformers in the market in current time so there is no other game to really compete with for sales. My games target audience is teens to young adults and will be rated at a PEGI 12. This is because the main theme of self-expression links with how you are getting older, finding out about yourself and who you are as a person making it easy for the player to connect with the characters in game. This will keep them invested in the story as they want to see the characters succeed and complete their journey.
