What is synchronized swimming? • Synchronized swimming is a discipline that combines swimming, dance and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers in the water conducting a routine of elaborate moves to the beat of the music. Synchronized swimming demand aquatic skills, and requires physical strength and flexibility, art and precision in time. History(1) • At the beginning of the XX century, synchronized swimming was known as water ballet. The competition was first recorded in 1891 in Berlin, Germany. Many clubs were created at that time, and the sport was developed simultaneously in several countries: Australia, Canada, USA and Europe. While in the beginning was an exclusive sport for men, it quickly grew into a female form. In 1907, Australian Annette Kellerman popularized the sport in 1924, the first competition in North America was in Montreal, Canada, with Peg Seller as the first champion.
