Synaesthesia and Art • Synesthesia is a neurological occurrence, where sensory modes merge. A synesthete's mind has the notable ability to 'taste' shapes, 'hear' colors, or 'feel' sounds. . Synaesthesia is often placed into two categories. One is two-sensory, the crossing of two senses, and the other multi-sensory, the crossing of three or more senses. Of these crossing of senses, sounds to colors is most commonly know from the two-sensory function. Where sound may be heard and color is represented in that form of sound. In this case the sense of sight and eye movement is known to be the manner in which the individual portrays the form of color in a particular sound, where as the images are seen outside of the individual. Eye movement will follow a systematic pattern of movement when the viewer scans an actual image or object, and when imaging the same image or object eye movement will follow a similar pattern to the fictional object. Individuals with synaesthesia will follow a related pattern of eye movement that is comparable to a vision that is not actually present. This depiction of data in which the cross between sight and sound can be portrayed in artwork.
