Definition • Psychiatric disorders: Any condition that affects ones mind. • Mental illness is any disease or condition affecting the brain that influences the way a person thinks, feels, behaves and/or relates to others and to his or her surroundings.
causes Some factors include Heredity (genetics). Hereditary just means that you are more likely to get the condition than if you didn't have an affected family member. Psychological trauma: Some mental illnesses may be triggered by psychological trauma suffered as a child, such as severe emotional, physical or sexual abuse; a significant early loss, such as the loss of a parent; and neglect.
• Environmental stressors • Certain stressors—such as a death or divorce, a dysfunctional family life, changing jobs or schools and substance abuse—can trigger a disorder in a person who may be at risk for developing a mental illness.

Symptoms • Appearance and behavior; dementia or schizophrenic illness, depressions, alcoholism. Behavior in terms of personality disorder, auditory hallucinations • Speech. Long pauses in schizophrenia unable to interrupt in hypomania. Echolalia, repeating the interviewer
mood • Depression; loss of interest, poor concentration, early morning waking, appetite and weight disturbance, ideas of worthlessness guilt and persecution, retardation of speech • Suicide; questions like, how do you see the future? Have you felt it would be nice to escape or be able to sleep and not wake up?
• Anxiety • Elation; Feel like being on top of the world
Abnormal beliefs • Delusions of; persecution (most common), of granduer (patients believe they are on a special mission), of poverty or depressive dellusions (feelings of worthlessness and guilt), nihilistic delusions (feeling part of their body as dead), of love (erotomania), of infidelity (morbidly jealous), of influence( complain of thoughts being forced into or out of their heads
