SYMBOLISM POSTER Through minimalist eyes

What symbols can you see?

What are their messages? („Speaking with images“ Luba Lukova)

MINIMALISM Minimalism can be described as the stripping away of all unnecessary elements and focusing on what needs to be there. It encourages purpose. (Mary Stribley)

GOOD POSTER SHOULD BE: 1. AESTHETIC – It should get attention so the message is delivered. 2. FOCUSED – It should focus and communicate on a single message. 3. ORDERED – The sequence should be wellordered and obvious. • (http: //justcreative. com/2008/05/13/how-to-design-a-movie-poster-with-anexample/)

PRACTICAL TIPS • RESEARCH • HIDDEN RELATIONSHIPS – play and explore them in your design • SPACIAL RELATIONSHIPS - consider how your design interacts with other elements • EFFICIENCY - displays information neatly and efficiently • BALANCE – a good design often ensures that no one element overpowers the other with no good reason • BREAK SOME RULES • WHITE SPACE - white space can help balance out your design, declutter it and help it breathe

• BE DIRECT - when there are less elements fighting to be seen, you are able to be a lot more direct with your message and overall communication • SCALE IT UP – a simple design, when purposely scaled, helps you dictate the exact path your audience will take over your publication • USE ICONS – they can enhance accessibility, reduce the amount of text or type you have on a page and help guide users around your design visually

GET SYMBOLIC • minimalism is a great chance for you to explore the depth of symbolism with your design • try and think around an object, about the things associated with the subject, about what the subject stands for

. . . NOW. . . AND BRING YOUR POSTER IT TO LIFE. . !
