The role of the Swedish Energy Agency Ø The Swedish Energy Agency was recently appointed as the CDM Designated National Authority (DNA) and JI Focal Point Ø Swedish International Climate Investment Programme (SICLIP) - (CDM, JI, Testing Ground Facility) Ø Provide expert support to national delegation to the climate negotiations

Aim of SICLIP Ø To gain experience in using the flexible mechanisms and enhance the capacity to participate Ø The experience gained from this programme will be useful in providing support to Swedish companies intending to invest in CDM and JI projects in the future Ø Contribute to the ongoing development of the mechanisms both nationally and internationally Ø Acquisition of cost-effective carbon emisson reductions

CDM projects status Ø Purchase agreement (CERPA) are signed with four projects Ø Validation completed for these four projects => soon to be submitted for registration Ø Ongoing negotiations with a project in Gansu China Ø Plan to expand portfolio with some small scale projects in the LDCs.

CDM Projects Ø Three Bagasse cogeneration projects in sugar industries in Sao Paulo region, Brazil Ø Higher capacity equipment can be installed and the surplus may be exported Ø The project will help to secure the electricity production in the region Ø 18 MW Biomass Power Project, Tamil Nadu, India Ø The generated electricity will be exported to the state owned power utility company Ø Technology transfer and poverty alleviation
