Besides the all India curriculum of Swachh Vidyalaya, the programme has been successfully launched in the district of Bankura. The process of selection of schools was initiated from the lowest but most critical level of the education administration i. e. from BRC level. The selected list which has been received from the Block Resource Centre were reviewed at district level. The district recommended Best Five Schools to the state where a trained teams of visiting the school to physically verified the claims and assess the situation of the environment of the school.
At present 4, 84, 262 student are now reading in 4, 934 institution under the district. To facilitate the students with adequate no. of toilets the district has initiated programme to construct toilets in each and every educational institution so that the situation of child-friendly environment may be created. There are 4, 862 no. of schools are covered by Boys Toilet for 2, 46, 485 no. of Boys students. Similarly, 4, 926 no. of schools are covered by Girls Toilet for 2, 37, 777 no. of Girls students. So far the CWSN friendly toilet facility is concerned 2, 606 no. of schools are covered by such toilet for 7, 836 no. of CWSN students. At present there is no school devoid of any toilet facility under the district. Safe Drinking Water facility have been provided to each and every schools of this district.
Innovation monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely completion and quality of construction Total period of construction – 45 days. Field Jr. Engineer, SSM communicate with the School Authority day to day & time to time during the construction. During the time of construction the district level engineering team of SSM supervised and monitor the progress of work and for betterment of progress the team meet with local community and concerned school authorities and consult with BDO level for rapid progress. When problem arise at the time of construction work in-progress, at that time the problems are discussed with concerned Block level and Panchayat level officers and they ensure to solve the problems. The progress of construction work specially monitored and supervised by the district administration through meeting with the district level engineering team of SSM and concerned Block level officials. Who actually constructed the toilets ? After sub-allotment of Toilet grant to the school level, the School Management Committee takes steps to complete the work within time-framed. The Field Jr. Engineer concerned, School Authority takes all necessary steps to make arrangement for completion of toilet. Finally construction of toilet has been completed in supervision of School Managing Committee and it is totally monitored by the concerned Field Jr. Engineer and the district level engineering team. System Improvements for maintenance and cleanliness The SSM extends the school grant (@5, 000/- per PS and @7, 000/per UPS) and maintenance grant (@Rs. 5, 000/- to 10, 000/- per school) to each & every school in the district. The 30% of these grants has been utilised for the maintenance and cleanliness programme of schools on regular basis. Community participation in construction and maintenance Community participation would be a central and overarching factor in planning, implementation and monitoring. Participation of the community, parents, teachers and children by awareness generation and interventions for community mobilization. Efforts for behavioural change through cleanliness and awareness campaigns in schools/community The effort of behavioural change among the students & community awareness campaign has been conducted in school through Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha. A school level Sit & Draw competition to promote water, sanitation and hygiene in the school context is one of the most impressive highlights of Nirmal Vidyalaya Abhiyan. Impact on attendance of students, specially girls The sanitation coverage of all the schools has changed the behavioural habits among the girls students remarkably, the reflection of which can be noticed the ongoing Gender Priority Index (GPI) and which has shorten the gender gap in this district to a large extent.

Innovations in Implementation Latest technology is used i. e. hike messenger, whatsapp messenger through which day to day progress of work as uploaded and construction steps i. e. G. L. to P. L. , P. L. to R. L. and R. L. to complete has sent to the district level team from Block level concerned. As a result the District Authorities are aware about the progress of work and to make easy to monitor. Convergence with other important schemes like MGNREGS – § Creation of Hedge Boundary at more than 2, 000 schools. § Engagement of local labourers for cleanliness and maintenance of plants.
Three significant positive things that helped the district achieve outcomes Regular and random monitoring. Involvement of ‘Panchayat Raj Institution’ from higher level to lower level, i. e. Zilla Parishad to Gram Sansad. Involvement of community and specially for parents to develop awareness for use of toilet.
What improvements would you suggest For better implementation of ‘Swachh Vidyalaya’ each and every school will have to be covered under running water system and proper drainage system in school. Awareness to be made all over the local community for proper use of sanitation. Green plantation in and around school campus.
Innovations introduced in implementation of the program to achieve its objectives We are in the process to erect rain water harvesting structure at each and every school. Use of fly ash bricks. Use of waste water in the kitchen-Garden.
Bringing perceptible improvements in institutions for achieving the Scheme goals Sanitation song before starting of school. Health card distribution. Making public delivery systems efficient and corruption free As the construction of toilets are done by the School Management Committee under active supervision & monitoring of the Engineering Cell of SSM. For transparency, after completion of the construction works all the related vouchers are placed in the meeting of the Parent-Teachers Association for approval.

Setting high standards of services & continued improvement for implementation of the program in your district We are in the process to set-up Rain Water Harvesting structure at each school to combat water crisis particularly during summer. Supply of Filtered pipe water is being taken up by Public Health Engineering Dte. Supply of Water Purifier.
Systemic changes leading to lasting improvement in Governance with regard to implementation approach, strategy and methodology Regular discussion in classroom about this programme. Health assessment. Setting up of Kitchen Garden to grow habit among students to take up vegetables in MDM. This will control malnutrition among students.
