Background Ministry of Railways decided to capture the perception of Passengers on cleanliness Standards at major Railway stations through a Professional Agency Objective - to identify the focus areas for improving cleanliness & develop a monitoring mechanism. 47 parameters on cleanliness were identified : − 22 on infrastructure & enabling provisions − 10 on processes & methodology − 15 on outcomes connected with cleanliness Task entrusted to IRCTC, who engaged M/s TNS India Pvt Ltd for. Scope of the Survey 407 major stations across 16 Railway Zones Coverage A 1 Category – 75 Stations A Category - 332 Stations Target Respondents Sample size Passengers waiting to board any train holding a ticket with PNR or UTS number 400 per A 1 Station and 300 per A station (In all 1, 34, 564 passengers responded ) Non-Railway service providers at stations Add-on Responses Railway officials who are part of the Service Improvement Group (SIG) of stations Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Survey done from Jan. 16 to Feb. 5, 2016 © TNS 11 Feb 2016
Methodology & Significance § Passenger was asked to rate the station’s cleanliness on 40 different cleanliness parameters § Weightage was derived for each parameter by regression analysis and scores calculated accordingly. § This Preliminary Report is purely based on the passenger perception on cleanliness of the stations. § Final report will factor in the existing infrastructure, responses from Rly staff and non-railway service providers. The Way Forward § Develop daily / periodical monitoring parameters for prompt corrections & sustained improvement. § Prioritize deployment of resources and corrective actions to focus areas / locations. § Identify focus areas for campaigns on behavioral changes. § Similar surveys to be undertaken periodically to assess the results of inputs given.
