Explanation of NDP Process Hugh Bellars
What is a Neighbourhood Development Plan? Neighbourhood planning is a right for communities introduced through the Localism Act 2011 Communities can shape development in their areas through the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans The NDP then becomes part of the Wiltshire Core Strategy The policies contained within the NDP are then used in the determination of planning applications
What about the…? Sutton Benger Parish Plan (2009) Sutton Benger Parish Plan Questionnaire (2013) Earlier efforts to set out a vision and an action plan for the Parish But… not statutory documents which can form part of the Wiltshire Core Strategy (2015) A source of existing evidence for the NDP
What the NDP is not… It is not a NIMBY’s charter It is not a Developers’ free-for-all It cannot be prepared without input from the local community It cannot be in conflict with national and EU policies or the Wiltshire Core Strategy … and inevitably some may not like the outcome
What the NDP is… Gives our community the direct power to: Develop Shape We a shared vision for our neighbourhood the development and growth of the parish are able to choose: Where What buildings should look like Which But… new homes and businesses should be built green areas should have special protection the NDP must still meet the needs of the Wiltshire Core Strategy
