Why Instructional Rounds? On the surface our scores are very good but the achievement gaps remain. We asked ourselves how can we reach all students? Great things are going on around our school but in isolation - lots of one room school houses. #ROBIOUS
What are Instructional Rounds? The instructional rounds focus is on the instructional core, especially the students. Rounds build a network to teach and share knowledge. The process starts with a problem of practice derived from qualitative data that is collected. It allows an opportunity to observe peers in a non-evaluative manner. Dual Purpose: Allows for professional development for teachers participating and drives school improvement.

Our Findings Our Problem of Practice: Our data indicated we weren’t meeting the needs of all of our students. We needed to find out how to improve our instructional core to improve differentiation? Our school focus was differentiation, through this process we found that it was not being done with fidelity. We also found that learning targets were being posted, but not interacted with. From here, we have started providing the staff with professional development on learning targets and will continue with our focus on differentiation. Next year, 2 teachers from this year’s rounds will facilitate instructional rounds.
