10 | sustainable building Buildings certification Why buildings certification? § Buildings and the construction sector use 50% of materials and ressources which are removed from earth‘s crust. § Over the entire life cycle, the consumption of primary energy in buildings generates about 40% of the total greenhouse gases in Europe. § 25 % of the whole quanitiy of waste occur from the construction sector. § The construction sector has an economic influence of approx. 10 % of the GDP (gross domestic product in Europe) § People spend almost 90% of their lives inside buildings.
