What Did We See? – 1/2 § Sustainable Barbados (SBRC) - Since 2009 Recycling Centre, Inc. § 20 Years, Build, Own, Operate and Transfer Contract with the Go. B § Objective: Divert Waste from the Sanitary Landfill § Benefit to Barbados: less waste going to the landfill and extended landfill life § Waste Composition: MSW 30%, Garden & Green 15%, Construction 15%, Rock & Soil 40%

What Did We Learn? - 1/2 § Receive and Process Waste for a fee - 50 USD/T @ 1000 T/d. § Tipping fee of 25 USD/T since 2 weeks = daily dropped to 3 -400 T/d. § Recycled Waste (wood chip, carton board, soil amendment, etc…) sold 50/50 between Go. B and SBRC § 100% Go. B funding very little possibility to generate revenues.
What Did We Learn? - 2/2 § Considered Incineration (for Σ - 5/6 MW? ) § Mo. U with Foreign Investors for very expensive installations (realistic? ) § Gas production from landfill considered § Tender launched by Go. B Failed (studies? ) § Unrealistic plan for green approach § Water Recycling issue (Impact on environment? ) § Disorganized Waste Collection § Conclusion: No Data, No Studies, No Plans…
How Are We Going To Apply? § Data collection needed (Feasibility Studies) § Solid waste management plan, including new collection and regulatory systems to be developed with a long term perspective for the management of the sector. § TAF support to be considered
