SUSPENSION BRIDGE BASIC FACTS • Invented by James Finley • Invented in 1801
THE PURPOSE OF THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE The purpose of the suspension bridge during the industrial revolution was to make a reliable source for trains to cross rivers. The suspension bridge also helped transport industry products. Lastly, suspension bridges were cheaper then boating to all destinations.
PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE SINCE CREATION One problem that has faced the suspension bridge since its creation, is stability and strength. Against winds , heavy weights, cattle, snow, and storms All this could cause the ridge to collapse. The bridge collapsing could lead to the bridge hitting people, the trains, people, and animals could suffer major injuries, and the bridge hitting buildings.
SUSPENSION BRIDGES TODAY Now suspension bridges have changed their structure to make it more stable. To change the structure they now use triangles and arches into their design to make the bridge stronger. They also use stronger materials to make it stronger.
FUTURE SUSPENSION BRIDGES In the future the suspension bridge will go from point a to point b and c, instead of point a to b. This would work because the bridge would start off like a normal bridge but on the other half would split in half so it can go to more than one place. It still functions the same, except now there will be an extra added on part identical to the original bridge but multiplied. It is better because it will be less money as it is one bridge instead of two, and you would be able to go to more than one place from one area. The positive consequences of my solutions are that since it is cheaper, we can spend more money on more important things like world hunger, etc. We would also be able to get places faster, and have more space for homes, as it is one bridge instead of two.
