What is suspense? The quality of a literary work that makes the reader or audience uncertain or tense about the outcome of events Suspense makes the reader ask "What will happen next? ".

What is foreshadowing? The use of hints or clues in a narrative to suggest what action is to come. Foreshadowing helps to build suspense in a story because it suggests what is about to happen.
Foreshadowing can be in the form of a dialogue, specific events, or images. Read this excerpt from the beginning of Romeo and Juliet. Why would this be considered foreshadowing? Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
