Can Your Billy Goats Survive the Troll? The goats need to get to the other side of the river so that they can eat the fresh, green grass. But what about the perilous, hungry troll? Create a model structure to help the Billy Goats get from one side to the other, while using the EDP and only the materials provided.

Criteria Your bridge should be able to withstand the weights of each goat: 10 lbs, 12 lbs, and 15 lbs as measured by Chemistry textbooks. Your bridge should be at least 11 inches wide and 6 inches tall.

Details You’ll work in groups of 5 -6 to imagine, plan, create, test, and improve your bridge structure. ~30 min Your goal is to create a bridge that can withstand the weight of each goat. The final submission must include the planning sheet and a working drawing that illustrates how the structure was designed. The final testing will be on the river model design.

Extension Activities Award a prize to the bridge that withstands the weight, but also weighs the least. Award the bridge that has the best physical appearance. Set a budget for the bridge construction and charge for materials. Create a bigger challenge by continuing to add weight after every bridge has been tested to see which one can withstand the most weight.
