Survey Analysis (surveymonkey results)
Question 1 From the 100 results we gathered we received 66% female answers and only 34%. To get valid results we would have preferred 10 have 50% of each gender however one of our limitations was that in the free version of survey monkey, you can only view the first 100 results and therefore we were not able to analyse results from an equal amount of males and females. In addition to this, our target audience is most likely to be of the male gender as this is the conventional audience for an action and adventure film. We are disadvantaged by the fact that we have less male replies as the results we gather may not be representative of our actual primary or secondary audience.
Question 2 The majority of the respondents were under the age of 18 which is representative of our primary audience however due to the way that our survey is set up we are unable to see their exact age which is an improvement we can consider for the future. 36% of our respondents also fall into our primary audience category which means their answers are useful when it comes to decisions on how to cater to what this section of our audience want to see. The remaining 28% of respondents make up our secondary audience so we can use their results when we are trying to cater to them. However, as only 28% of our results are from our secondary audience we are not able to get hugely representative results and should do a follow up survey of this age bracket only.
Question 3 The results we achieved are roughly similar as they all scored an average of 2%. Although, misen-scene was slightly in front with 2. 81% and this is useful information that we can take through to the production stages as we will have to make sure that the mis-en-scene is as effective as it can be to please our audience. Camerawork was valued as the least important in a film trailer however only by 0. 02% so we have to take into account all micro elements to make our film the best quality possible and catering to our primary or secondary audience.
Question 4 I did not use all 100 answers as some were invalid and unhelpful to us as a group, this could have had a negative effect on our decisions. As seen from the screenshot of question 4, everyone who answered could type whatever they wanted. Therefore to make the analysis easier I created this table which shows all the options chosen by the people who answered the survey. As there are fifteen different categories, we decided to take the top five most popular features as a primary focus for our trailer. These features will therefore be: An overview of the plot (24. 1% answered) The names and use of ‘good’ actors (15% answered) Action clips from the film (11. 5% answered) A cliff-hanger (8% answered) Suspense and attention grabbing (7% answered each) These were the most popular answers from this question and therefore will help make the trailer successful and popular. Features of a film trailer which encourage you to watch the film: Hint of plot twist Sound track Mystery Suspense Clips from film (action) plot Cliff-hangers Actors Sets scene Humour Well-edited Grabs attention Shows genre of film How exciting it is Narrative TOTAL Tally 1 7 2 6 10 21 7 13 1 4 4 6 1 3 1 87
Question 5 As seen from the results a majority of 44% of answers chose the genre of action/adventure, this made it easy to choose the genre of our film as no other answer came close. It would be very risky to go with another genre as the audience that would watch our film/trailer would be less than the maximum. From these results we will decide on a film plot of the genre of action/adventure.
Question 6 For this question we narrowed down the focus of the trailer so that we got a more concentrated idea of what our trailer should include. As seen the two options were plot line and characters. The majority (82%) answered that the story-line is more important than the emphasis of characters, this matches with question four as people agreed that plot was most important even when given their own choice of what they deem important. This therefore helps decide that we do need to focus on making the story easy to follow with a slight emphasis on introducing the characters.
Question 7 It is clear from this data that our audience wants to know the title of the film from the trailer-this allows them to see what film they are watching. They also value a plot outline, however, the least important option was important scenes, which suggests they like to be kept in suspense until they watch the film. Our “other” option showed that not all of our audience replied to our survey appropriately, which means our results won’t be totally accurate to our target audiences desires. However the other 3 responses that they want to see setting and a feel of the genre however unimportant scenes are not necessary.
Question 8 The majority of our audience wants to see the protagonist in the trailer, opposed to 68. 75% of the responses wanting the antagonist to be shown. The other option showed a similar result to question 7 as not all of the answers are appropriate.
Question 9 The majority of responses show that our audience enjoys the story line/narrative, and feel this has the biggest impact on them. Therefore we have to include an effective narrative which the audience can pick up easily and understand.
Question 10 As seen from this, the majority of the answers suggest that a piece of music such as a soundtrack is used in our trailer. This is only logical as this is a convention of film trailers.
